Principal's Letter - October 2020

From the Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As I write this our students and educators here at IES Årsta are celebrating our spirit week to end the half term. This week really shows who we are as a school community, positive, collaborative and here together for each other's future. Coming together has been a focus for this term. As the students have been focused on building new relationships within their new classes this half term. With resilience and grit they come through this experience stronger and it brings our year groups together for the long run. Mentors work hard to support in building new relationships and ensure we have a calm and safe learning environment for our students. This is work that never stops and we have to continue to work together. The mentor phone calls are an important part of this to receive your feedback and ensure we work together for the students. Thank you for being available for these and continuing to support the mentors and your children.

Mid Term Reports

This week our educators have been working incredibly hard to ensure that students receive formal feedback on the knowledge requirements on Schoolsoft for their mid-term reports. Please take the time to sit down with your children and reflect on their goals from the development talks earlier in the term. Are they progressing towards them, what needs to be the challenge up until the end of the Autumn term? We set high expectations for our students and want to challenge them to achieve their potential. To reach their potential we need to support them here at school and from you at home.

Assistant Principal

I am happy to announce that our long term Academic Manager Ms Legersjö is now officially our second Assistant Principal - Academics. She joins Ms Gavin, our existing Assistant Principal - Student Care, to strengthen our school leadership team and our school.

Subject Teacher Evening

On Wednesday 4 November we will be holding our virtual subject teacher evening for Autumn Term. This gives you an opportunity to meet the subject teacher and discuss the academic progress of your child. Bookings are done on a first-come basis and will be available on Schoolsoft from Thursday 22 October.

We thank you for your support by following the guidelines and keeping students home when sick or with symptoms. We also want to remind students to login to Schoolsoft and follow along with the lessons when at home to ensure they do not fall behind with their learning.
